Schools

Local children from the Hillfoots primary schools have been finding out about their local natural heritage as part of a recent environmental project.

The Ochils Landscape Partnership has been working with one class from each of the six primary schools within the Ochils Landscape Partnership area - Menstrie, Alva, Coalsnaughton, Tillicoultry, Strathdevon and Muckhart.

Each school, aided by the Ochils Landscape Partnership, picked a relevant topic relating to their immediate environment, such as Kelly Burn for Strathdevon Primary and Alva Glen for Alva Primary.

In all, 50 lessons took place at these outdoor locations, and classes carried out river dipping and mini beast hunts and they estimated the ages of trees.

All 6 schools also produced their own animated films. Working in conjunction with Edinburgh-based Red Kite Animation, each film is on a topic related to the outdoor lessons, covering issues such as flooding and geology.
