Historic Kirkyards Event - Tue, 22 Jan 2013 - 19:00 to 20:30

A tradstone in Tillicoultry Upper Kirkyard

  • Are you interested in the ancient kirkyards in the Hillfoots? (Logie, Alva, Tillicoultry Upper, Tillicoultry Lower, Tait's Tomb, Dollar and Muckhart)
  • Would you like to learn more about the interesting stones and architecture in these kirkyards?
  • Would you like to get involved with gravestone conservation and data recording?

We are holding an evening talk on Tuesday 22 January in The Ben Cleuch Centre, Tillicoultry, at 7 p.m.

Susan Mills, Museum and Heritage Officer for Clackmannanshire Council, will introduce the kirkyards project, highlighting some of the interesting stones that can be found in the Hillfoots area. These include a small number of 12th century hogback stones and a large number of ornately carved tradestones from the 17th century onwards. Eleanor Young, from Logie Old Graveyard Group, will then showcase what has already been done at Logie, mostly by volunteers.

Come along to find out how you can get involved - all welcome!
